Art is a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical value-judgments. An artist recreates those aspects of reality which represent his fundamental view of man's nature. (Ayn Rand, 'Art and Cognition')

About the Artist

I've been drawing, painting, building, and even sewing things for the proverbial "ever since I can remember." It's a gift from God, for sure, but it's also a passion, and an obsession.  Something I need to do, like eating or breathing.

I gravitate towards natural subject matter, wildlife and Native American themes. Combining these tendencies has led to the techniques I use to present the images on natural materials.  Leather* and raw wood add a real third dimension, a uniqueness to each piece which is drawn individually, by hand, by me.

*Leather... I offer an apology, of sorts to anyone that is troubled by my use of it.
For the most part the leather I use is cast off and scrap cow and steer hide, so it's conservation of what might otherwise end up in a land fill.

One of the things for which I admire Native American culture is their efficient use of everything, no waste. The rest of the animal has already been used for food, etc. I never use materials from anything exotic, or even close to endangered. Life is beautiful.  Death is part of life, and there is beauty in death, if you can understand it as a part of life.
